15/2/2020 1 Comment February WorkshopsWe had such a great time at our February workshops!
In the morning Kate led an iris folding class and some fantastic cards were made by everyone who attended. The afternoon workshop was led by Allie, who talked everyone through making a lavender heart. As you can see, a gorgeous range of designs were created by everyone who came along. Our March workshops will be on Saturday 14th March and will be back at Miss Samantha's Vintage . Keep a look out for details on our Facebook page!

31/10/2019 0 Comments Card Making With Iris FoldingEnjoy papercraft and fancy having a go at iris folding? Or maybe you’ve never heard of this technique, but would like to try making a handmade card? Well, you have a chance to learn iris folding at one of our workshop hosted by Miss Samantha’s Vintage, where Kate will be leading a card making session. The iris folding technique creates such beautiful cards and importantly is a lot simpler than it looks! Called iris folding as the finished designs look like the iris of a camera, the patterns are simply created by folding strips of paper and following a template to create a great looking card. There will be lots of designs to choose from at the workshop, including some Christmas patterns for that special festive greeting. You don’t need any experience in card making as Kate will be on hand to help. The workshop will be for two whole hours, so you can take your time to make your card. The iris folding workshop is at 10am on Saturday 9th November and is £5 per person, which is payable on the day. As workshop places are limited, please reserve your places via our event details here. 14/10/2019 0 Comments Workshops at Miss Samantha VintageKate & Allie Crafts are back with two workshops at a brand new venue for our crafting. We are thrilled to be hosted by Miss Samantha's Vintage, the well-loved shop selling vintage-inspired clothes and accessories in the heart of Walkley in Sheffield.
On Saturday 9th November 2019 we will be having two different workshops. Kate will be leading a card making class using iris folding from 10am, with Allie helping you create a flower brooch in the afternoon at 1pm. Both workshops will be two hours long to give you lots of time to craft away. Each session is £5 per person, which is payable on the day, but you can reserve you place via the event link below. You can come along just for the morning or afternoon sessions, or book for both the card and brooch making. We’ll be having a short break for lunch between workshops, so if you’d like to come to both classes you’ll have a chance to sample one of the great cafes in Walkley. As workshop places are limited, please book your places via our event details here. 13/6/2017 0 Comments Lots happeningWow so it's been a while...
A lot has been happening there's been a house move (me and Ben) a new pet (Kate) holidays, charity running madness a return to work, nursery taster sessions, some Etsy shop tweaking/special offers and lots of crafting - exciting new things for the shop and stall. There are not enough hours in the day has never been a truer phrase. As a very disorganised individual trying to fit everything in and look after Ben is a challenge. First a round up of what Kate and Allie Handmade Crafts have been up to
So what crafting have we been up to? Kate is upcycling denim for patchwork picnic blankets and I have finally retrieved the sewing machine from storage to make some large slouchy bags which along with soft box cosmetic pouches will be on the stall at Walkley festival on Saturday, they will also get listed on Etsy soon. What happened to the jumper? Well I put it away for a while but have realised I probably need to decide it's fate soon as my nephews birthday will soon be here once again. For those not conversant with the jumper saga I am a beginner in the knitting arena but picked a ridiculously difficult jumper pattern, have spent more time unraveling the jumper than knitting it now have discovered a needle size error gurr can't decide whether to try again or give up ..... as you can see the saga continues. Right off to meet Kate to hear of her travels and plan Saturdays craft fair xxx 30/1/2017 0 Comments Rome wasn't built in a daySo we couldn't sell our tiny envelopes filled with hearts 🙁. We are going to ask the lovely people at Mugen if we can arrange a new date for our Mother's Day class making cards and flower brooches. Kate is also hoping to run some scrap booking days wearing her Papercraft Kate hat. Today I'm making a covered notebook and I have two knitted teddies to finish so I should really crack on. But first it would appear I need to rewrite this blog post because I've lost half of it again! Gurr me and technology don't mix! Please do get in touch if there's anything you'd like us to run a session doing, on the website takes your fancy let us know we are really keen to cater to what people want. Similarly if you have suggestions about classes times/prices etc let us know. We are fairly flexible n mobile so if your mums group or church group need activities for meetings we can come to you. We are keen to continue our upcycling so we are offering discounts for people who provide materials for example fancy a personalised button picture and have some fabric/buttons you no longer have need for we'll take them and reduce the price of your product. While I realise our crafty cakey ramblings might not be your cup of tea (or the regular updates on that bleedin jumper!) please could u take a minute to share our Fb posts /tweets to help us get the word out. Thanks xxx 18/1/2017 1 Comment Tiny Envelopes Filled With Hearts! We’re taking bookings for our Stick & Stitch workshop which will be crafting for Valentine’s Day. Everyone attending will be able to sew a heart with Allie and stick a Valentine’s Day card with me. As the title of this blog post suggests, the card will be made using the tiny envelope and heart-shaped punches, which are all put together to create the design. The decorative punches for paper crafting are easy to use, so if you have never tried card making before, it’s a great chance to have a go. This card could also be used for birthdays, anniversaries or weddings as you can chose whatever colours you like, so you don’t have to make it for a Valentine. The workshop will take place at Mugen Tea House, which means you will get to buy a lovely lunch or tea and cake whilst you’re crafting. Last time we were there we had toffee apple cake, which was amazing! The Stick & Stitch will be on Saturday 4th February between 11am and 4pm, and will be £15 per person. Just get in touch with us if you would like to book a place or if you have any questions J Kate Well I started this post on the 20/12 last year and then Christmas seemed to run away with me with pressies and orders to finish, gifts to wrap and post and family to visit!
So we did 3 Christmas craft fairs, opened an Etsy shop had a facebook shop event and took some commissions what busy little elves kate and I were. A family of personalised owls was created and heart button pictures. The nephews jumper unfortunately did not make it under the tree but is still a work in progress after some reassurance from mum that all is not lost. So now the festivities are over and the decorations are packed away it's time to decide what projects are on the list to be tackled in 2017, and for Kate and I to plan our classes for the year ahead. We also have an up cycling offer idea that we want to put into practice as soon once sort out the details... 2/12/2016 0 Comments Walking in a Wortley wonderlandWe had a good day at the Wortley Hall Christmas Fair on Sunday. It was very well attended and we sold quite few things, particularly ceramic pig decorations for some reason. It’s funny that one fair seems mean particular items are popular, which is particularly odd as our stall is usually set out in more or less the same way.
Allie has mentioned several times that our jaunts out to craft fairs are usually accompanied by cake. In fact most of our outings do normally feature cake in some way. The cake of the day at Wortley was incredibly good salted caramel brownies. We also had some amazing fudge later in the day – well, we had to support some of the other sellers by sampling their wares! We are at another fair on Saturday, so please do come along and join us if you can. We will be at St Mary’s Church on South Road in Walkley for their Christmas Fair. The fair is open between 10 am and 2 pm and has a whole range of stalls selling Christmas gifts. It was lovely last year, so I’m really looking forward to it. 29/11/2016 1 Comment And for our next trick ....So we've been quite the busy bees! I'm feeling quite stunned that we've managed to set up a website, make stuff, sell at craft fairs, run a craft class day and keep our respective families alive. As I've mentioned previously we like a good craft fair and one that sells good cake will get our vote any time however having a relatively young baby and tables at fairs becoming more expensive we've been toying with the idea of an internet shop. Well we've only gone and done it. Let me set the scene it's 6pm and baby is just finishing his feed, Kate arrives laptop in hand ready to create our Etsy store. I make tea, get out the cupcakes to accompany our enterprise building and we settle down to begin, all to a background of the Gilmore girls. This is of course where the calm ends ... baby decides he's colicky again so needs comforting/entertaining/gripe water, Seb decides he's fed up of being usurped by said baby and so began, "baby juggling" and "cat tennis" all whilst we try to measure and describe a Scottie dog. As ever we persevered and our shop is officially open! So far stock is fairly limited to 2 Scottie dogs however our intention is to add more items as we get the photos ready. After all the excitement and me being quite the technophobe I decided I didn't have it in me to try and add items tonight and turned my attention to a new project that presented itself to me while I was out trying to get frames for 2 button hearts that have been ordered. I'm sure I'd concluded that this week I didn't need to make I could concentrate on organising and changing our labels etc for the stall, at the last count I had 3 owls, 2 Christmas tree decorations some button pictures and bags to finish as well as Christmas knitting to finish....
25/11/2016 1 Comment Two days to go...So with two days to go until the Christmas fair at Wortley Hall, our crafts are packed and ready to go not sure how ready I'll be with works Christmas do the night before!
Not sure if I've mentioned it before but I've got a bit of a thing about buttons, (me and Kate both if I'm honest). I can't explain it but I think they're great there's something satisfying about finding the perfect buttons to finish a piece off eyes for an owl an embellishment for a Christmas tree decoration. At one point we had a self imposed ban on buying any more. Big cheap bags are the best then you can spend time sorting them. A while ago whilst browsing the internet I found some pictures made with buttons ...... exciting and after further perusal I found a video tutorial making letters from buttons in the video they were stuck on with glue which seemed like a cheat somehow. So when my nephew was one I made a T for his nursery, I also made a sheep for our baby's nursery, I've been keen to try some at a craft fairs and maybe do made to order designs. Here's what I've come up with so far, think they could do with some refinement but we will see. |
